Climate Change is an existential threat not just to important and beloved animals like polar bears, the coral reefs, sea turtles, bumblebees, and many more, but also to the human species. If we do not combat climate change, melting ice caps will mean Island nations will disappear, coastal cities like Miami and even New York will be at least partially under water. Rising temperatures will mean areas like the Middle East and parts of Africa will one day be uninhabitable. These things will cause a humanitarian crisis where people will need to evacuate their homes and live somewhere else. The extinction and changes to both plants and animals will also have huge damaging effects on people in the U.S. and all over the world. Without bees, certain fish, and changes in where crops can grow, our economy and our ability to feed the nation will be greatly damaged, and that will lead to Americans dying. All of this is why I support the Green New Deal.
The Green New Deal (GND), inspired by The New Deal, would create millions of jobs by creating new energy-efficient infrastructure, new clean energy systems, and restoring and protecting American ecosystems. These would be well-paying and union jobs for the working class. GND is more than just the national environment, but also keeping local communities' environment clean and healthy. Lead pipes will be removed, the water and air of our communities will be cleaned and protected, public transit will be funded and expanded, and more.
I will fight for a House version of the Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity, and Reliability Act. This legislation is designed to tackle critical issues such as lead contamination and the presence of PFAS (forever chemicals) in our water supply, while simultaneously revitalizing our national infrastructure and generating high-quality jobs across the country.
I will fight to end fossil fuel subsidies, to ban fracking & offshore drilling, and to ban the use of glyphosate on our crops. The money that would have gone to the fossil fuels industry should be invested in the development of clean energy without sacrificing farmland, building energy-efficient infrastructure, and protecting our important ecosystems.
We successfully organized to stop an unneeded additional fracked gas power plant in Woodbridge NJ
Additionally, I advocate for programs like the New Jersey Blue Acres Buyback Program, which offers a proactive solution for neighborhoods ravaged by flood damage, helping communities move towards safer ground.
Lastly, I will introduce a bill that would to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure fair practices within our farming communities.
